A jewel in the Mediterranean

Menorca was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO

Despite its reputation as a holiday destination, Menorca remains to be one of the most unspoilt Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. Menorca visitors say the island has something special, which makes it different and unique.
With its 216 kilometres of coastline situated off the east coast of Spain, Menorca is the second largest of the Balearic Islands, after Majorca.

Minorca attracts tourists who desire a warm Mediterranean climate and a less chaotic holiday. Menorca does not get too overcrowded and a lot of its landscape has remained untouched because it is controlled by the local population who want to preserve Menorca’s natural beauty.

In 1993 Menorca was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, and its Natural Spaces Law has protected 45 % of its territory. There are twenty protected areas in Menorca, the most important of which is the s’ Albufera des Grau Natural Park, the only natural park in Menorca and one of four on the Balearic Islands.

Mahón is the capital city of Menorca and is an important commercial and industrial centre of Menorca. Located in the eastern part of the island, Mahon has one of the deepest natural ports in the world. Due to the wealth generated by tourism the historical capital of Mahon was renovated towards the end of the 20th Century and is now famous for its architecture, fairs, festivals and fiestas.

The charming town of Ciutadella houses some of the most significant religious buildings in Minorca.
